Dish Network Information
Dish Network is a broadcast satellite
dish service that sends digital video and audio signals to homes
in the U.S. and is owned by their parent company, EchoStar Communications
Corporation.
The EchoStar Company started to provide
its own satellite service on December 28, 1995. In that same
year, EchoStar established the Dish Network brand name when
it launched EchoStar I. On September 10, 1996 they launched
EchoStar II.
During the following five years Dish
Network obtained some additional orbital slots and launched
six more satellites under the Echostar name. They now have nine
satellites in orbit that they use in order to provide their
satellite tv service.
Originally, Dish Network used an 18-inch
satellite dish that they called the Dish 300. This dish allowed
customers to be able to receive a signal from just one satellite
location. Today, Dish Network systems use a 20-inch satellite
dish which they have named the Dish 500. This one allows subscribers
to be able to receive satellite signals from two satellite locations
at the same time.
In 1995 Dish Network had 20,000 subscribers.
By 2006 that number had grown to more than 12,000,000.
